Customers Reviews & Testimonials

The iconic images of South Africa are of majestic elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, and buffalo prancing through pristine bush. Some first-time visitors are thus surprised to learn that, in contrast to other regions of southern and East Africa's safari belt, a relatively small portion of this complex nation is given over to national parks and reserves. There are many small pockets of protected bushland with carefully stocked and managed wildlife populations scattered along South Africa's Indian Ocean coastline and in the area between Johannesburg and Gaborone. These do, however, lack some of the charm and atmosphere of a true wilderness, even though they provide rewarding wildlife viewing.

But South Africa is much more than just its wildlife and game parks. There are many ways to experience South Africa, from exploring the San rock art paintings in the Drakensberg Mountains and the Cradle of Humankind near Johannesburg—one of the richest hominid fossil sites in the world—to staying in a traditional village of the Ndebele, Zulu, or Xhosa people and taking a township tour of Soweto—the country's oldest township—to indulging in the country's epicurean delights in the Cape Winelands and For this reason, even after spending more than 20 years in South Africa living, working, and travelling the country, I still find myself in awe of her beauty and mystique.

The variety of scenery in South Africa is spectacular, the weather is almost ideal, and there are countless places to see, things to do, and itineraries to take. Apart from its stunning coastline and modern towns, both of which I believe should be included in any South African safari, the nation is home to nearly all of the African wildlife that can be imagined in an astounding array of ecosystems. There are numerous game and nature reserves run by regional conservation organisations, numerous privately-run game reserves that are now present in every province, and more than 20 formal parks managed by South African National Parks. These game reserves have been crucial in restocking game that once occurred naturally throughout South Africa.
